2 days to go and December is upon us. It is an opportune time to reflect on the past year. It has been a year that has seen a steady growth in the number of contracts on offer and experienced contractors joining Game Ops. The register currently stands at over 630! The acceptance and realisation of the immense benefits of using contractors and adopting the ‘studio model’ has proved to be invaluable to many publishers and developers. To be able to call upon and utilize a variety of skills, across all disciplines, for a few days, weeks or months is a truly unique resource provided by Game Ops.
Before writing the cards, decorating the tree or wrapping the presents, contact Game Ops and let us ease some of the pressure at this busy time by delivering highly experienced contractors to your studio and you don’t have to wait until Christmas Eve!

At the BAFTA Awards Ceremony last week, Realtime Worlds picked up another 2 well-deserved awards for Crackdown - congratulations to all concerned. Also well done to Voodoo Boogy who were awarded the ‘Ones to Watch Award’.
The updated job boards display a variety of roles and developers now recognise that Game Ops can supply a wealth of skills across all disciplines - a ‘one stop shop’ for all their contract and recruitment needs.
We have just celebrated our 5th birthday and with over 600 contractors registered, Game Ops continues to demonstrate that using this flexible resource is indeed the way forward in game development. Those clients, who in the early days, insisted that ‘this was not their way of working’, are today reaping the rewards by tapping into this elite workforce to great effect.
Thank you to those clients who have adopted a forward thinking approach and have supported Game Ops over the last 5 years.

Apologies for not updating the website sooner, however, September 2007 now officially holds the record for the largest number of requests for both in-house and remote jobs in a single month. A huge thank you to all of the contractors who literally ‘dropped everything’ to undertake these positions and as always, demonstrated great skill, professionalism and enthusiasm for the tasks at hand. The feedback from the studios is testament to this and further reinforces that contractors have an important role to play in the development process and combined with the proficient service offered by Game Ops, ensures that the ‘Studio Model’ is here to stay.
For further information on how contracting can work for you, whether a client or a contractor, please call 01382 731909 or drop us an email.

A further prize, voted by the public at Dare ProtoPlay, was awarded to Voodoo Boogy. All three teams are nominees for the BAFTA ‘Ones to Watch Award’ in October.

Congratulations to Realtime Worlds (our local developer) on their success at the Develop Awards in Brighton this week. Two awards and well deserved for all their hard work on Crackdown.
The conference has generated several opportunities from new as well as existing clients. These can be viewed on both the job and contract boards. Please note these boards only display a small selection of roles available. Contact Game Ops on 01382 721909 or email to see what else is on offer.
With the Edinburgh Interactive Festival only 2 weeks away, Game Ops predicts that this trend will continue and reinforce the reality that freelancing, with all its facets, is indeed the way forward for software development.
6th July 2007
Despite the miserable weather, July has started brightly on both the contract and permanent positions front. A deluge of requests from studios this week, has seen a large number of our freelancers commit to long and short-term contracts. Similarly, on the permanent side, we have helped secure suitable positions for a number of candidates that will help them advance their careers.
Taking the time to listen and discuss each individual candidate’s preferences, Game Ops ensures that only appropriate roles are offered and that all information pertaining to a position is conveyed prior to interview. This attention to detail is paramount to a successful outcome.
So with the promising outlook for July and beyond, now is a good time to submit your CV and experience for yourself the personal service offered by Game Ops and let’s hope the weather brightens up too!

As you will see from the job boards this month, we have a number of positions for Programmers with various skills and levels of experience required. The demand for Coders is very high at the moment and from a graduate perspective, it has never been a better time to get into the industry. If you would like to find out more about the positions on offer, please email or give us a call on 01382 731909.
Whilst the Art/Design roles appear a little light at the moment, this situation can change very quickly and we do not always have the time to update the job boards to reflect this. It is very important that Game Ops has your details on file so that we can contact you immediately when the job comes in that matches your skill-set.

Apologies for not updating the website before now - better late than never :)
Over the past few weeks we have had numerous requests from Developers and Publishers for strong experienced people to enhance their existing teams. Whilst Game Ops has and continues to focus on the freelance market, our reputation with our clients has resulted in these requests. They trust that we will deliver the best and most suitable candidates for the available roles and will not waste their time with ‘near misses’.
Similarly, we will never send a candidate on fruitless journeys all over the country knowing that the roles they were looking for were not suited to their skills and experience. Our aim at Game Ops in to tailor the candidates prior to interview to ensure we achieve the best possible fit for a given role.

Calling all Coders! We have a number of contracts available for experienced programmers throughout the UK. Both remote and in-house opportunities offer excellent rates of pay with the additional benefits of accommodation and travel covered for the duration of the in-house contract.
With the recent news of yet more job losses on the industry, it is an ideal time to register with Game Ops and discuss with us how freelancing can provide you an alternative way of working. Many who take this step are loath to return to the constraints of the permanent role. The freedom to chose when, where and what to work on, the opportunity to undertake a variety of projects , develop new skills and the satisfaction of being your own boss - sound too good to be true? Not at all - this is freelancing with Game Ops!
Call 01382 731909 or email to find out more.

With all the speculation in the headlines this week of the impact of next-gen development costs hitting profits, the ‘studio’ model continues to be accepted as an essential strategy to combat this by many developers and publishers. Using freelancers at key stages of a project helps to minimise costs, offers flexibility and most importantly provides the specialist skills that a studio may require for a particular project.
Whilst Game Ops has around 600 contractors currently registered, we are always happy to hear from anyone who feels they have the expertise and aptitude to work in this way. Please forward your CV to info@gameops.co.uk or if you prefer a more personal approach you can call us on 01382 731909
