NEW IN 2006

20th December 2006

The final What’s New for 2006 and everyone at Game Ops would like to take this opportunity to wish all our clients and contractors a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We look forward to catching up with you all in 2007!

Fifth 2006MCVad2

21st November 2006

Generally when we refer to Outsourcing, we think of large teams, quite often extremely remote from the development studio and limited opportunities for regular contact. Whilst there can be financial benefits, we can not ignore the pitfalls that many of these ‘Outsourcing’ contracts undoubtedly create.

As well as individual contractors, Game Ops works with numerous small teams across the UK and Europe. They can often provide very specific skills either in an ‘outsource’ or in-source’ capacity. Being closer to home eliminates cultural differences, eases communication and allows face to face contact if required.

To find out more information on how such a resource can enhance your development, or if you are a part of a team and would like Game Ops to promote your skills and services, please contact us by email or give us a call on 01382 731909

7th November 2006

Many thanks to those of you whose contracts with us are nearing their end - a well deserved rest is in order! As for everyone else - keep up with the brilliant work you are doing and proving to all, that ‘in-sourcing’ and contracting is the way forward.

As well as the here and now contracts, we have had several calls this week from clients who are looking to source contractors for the start of the new year. Planning ahead in this way can ensure that a developer can get the right person at the right time and help to eliminate the pressure that can arise when extra bodies are needed at a particular stage of development.

As always, Game Ops welcomes experienced freelancers who have a variety of skills and open approach to working in this way. In particular, we have a number of opportunities for all levels of Programmers throughout the UK and Europe. If you would like to find out more, send us an email or give a call on 01382 731909.

12th October 2006

It was great to meet up with so many clients and contractors at the Tiga Outsourcing Conference in London last week. The event was well attended and we have had tremendous feedback since Steph’s presentation on ‘Freelancing and In-sourcing’. It would appear that the industry is beginning to appreciate the huge benefits of using freelancers to strengthen and add support to their existing team, as well as providing greater control over their development budget.

Four years on, Game Ops can now boast a register of over 550 experienced contractors from both the games industry and TV and film, as well as numerous teams across all disciplines. Despite having such a vast reservoir of talent, Game Ops would always welcome professionals who feel that freelancing is the way forward and are eager to offer their skills to an evolving industry. We understand in-sourcing better than anyone else, so send us an email or give us a call on 01382 731909.

15th September 2006

Only 100 days to Christmas - where has the year gone? With all those finished titles making their way to Santa, you’d think it was time for a wee rest - not on your life! We are busier than ever and have several urgent contracts to fill over the next couple of weeks. There has never been a better time for those of you wishing to explore the benefits of freelancing, so give Game Ops a call on 01382 731909 or drop us an email to discuss the position that would suit you.

There has also been a notable increase in the permanent positions, so if freelancing seems a bit daunting, you could always check out the jobs board on the recruitment page.

With a flexible approach to employment solutions for both clients and candidates, Game Ops is the future for the recruitment needs of the computer games industry.

30th August 2006

Congratulations to all the winners of Dare to be Digital and we wish you every success in the future. We at Game Ops look forward to working with you and helping you find the right position within the games industry.

As for Edinburgh (EIEF) - fantastic attendance, enlightening sessions and superb camaraderie.

IDEASFACTORY Scotland produced a screening at the Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival called Get Into Games. This session looked at how games are developed, designed and built, and also gave information about how to break into the industry. Game Ops was invited to participate and Steph’s presentation focussed on ‘Going Freelance’, highlighting the advantages for both industry and contractor alike. The session was hosted by Rebecca Thompson from IDEASFACTORY Scotland, with fellow speakers Mike Dailly, programmer at Real Time Worlds, Jane Dewar from Dare To Be Digital and Camilla Ross from Genuine Games. The session was well attended and it was great to have the opportunity to answer questions from the audience and many have contacted Game Ops since for further advice.

If you would like to know more about going freelance, then give us a call on 01382 731909 or drop us an email.

Btw did anyone catch Susan bopping away with a member of the band at the networking party at the Jam House? She moves as quick on the dance floor are she does sourcing contracts!

17th August 2006

Next week sees the start of EIEF and both Susan and Steph will be attending. It will provide an opportunity to meet with many of our existing clients who already utilise and appreciate the services Game Ops has to offer. For those of you who would like to know more about how Game Ops can help with your development needs, then please come along and talk with us or give us a call on 01382 731909.

Whether you are a graduate or a seasoned professional looking for a contract or a permanent job, Game Ops will always do our very best to help. Simply submit your CV to info@gameops.co.uk and let us do the rest.

One final note, Game Ops would like to wish all the teams of Dare to be Digital at Abertay University the very best for tomorrow. We look forward to seeing your game prototypes and meeting you in person.

26th July 2006

With the weather hotting up and many projects nearing completion, we have had a flood of requests for contractors this week to help achieve their end. If you feel you have the experience and skills to step into one of these ‘fire fighting’ roles then drop us an email or give us a call on 01382 731909.

Alternatively, we have several opportunities to work on new projects in both a contract or permanent basis throughout the UK, Europe and Asia. Take a look at the some of new jobs on the ‘Recruitment’ and ‘Outsourcing’ pages and contact us at Game Ops for more information.

How about working and living in New Zealand? This is a unique opportunity for a Senior Programmer who would embrace a challenge and enjoy experiencing all that this beautiful country has to offer. We need to fill this role urgently so contact us as soon as possible.

We have a new addition to the Game Ops team - Bette, who joins us as Office Assistant and will assist Susan in the day-to-day running of the business. Bette will be contacting many of our registered contractors to ensure that the information we have on file is current.

4th July 2006

So that’s it for another 4 years - well unless you ardent football fanatics can fair better on FIFA World Cup Germany 2006! And then there’s the tennis - best not go there.

When it comes to contracts and contractors - we are in the ‘top league’. Our guys currently out there are performing exceptionally and are helping to achieve the ultimate goal of delivering a title on time and within budget. Joining Game Ops would be your first step towards becoming one of these key players and sharing in our success. Give us a call on 01382 731909 or email us to sign up and join a winning team!

15th June 2006

Despite the World Cup being in full swing and many clients seemingly ‘unavailable’ around kick-off time, there has been no let-up in the demand for contractors this month. In fact we have had a record number of requests so far and we are only midway through June.

Please check out both job boards and give Game Ops a call if any are of interest or send your CV to info@gameops.co.uk if you would like to register.

19th May 2006

Now everyone is back from E3, there has been an increased demand for contractors to help projects progress to the next stage. Despite having over 500 experienced professionals on the Game Ops register, we would like to continue to boost this number and anyone wishing to join us should drop us an email or give us a call on 01382 731909.

If you have any questions related to contracting or are thinking of looking for a new opportunity, Game Ops will always offer help and advice and, where possible, provide a solution that fits your needs.

2nd May 2006

We are into May already - how this year in flying! With many projects approaching Beta, we have had numerous requests for experienced contractors to ensure milestones are met. In particular we need Network and PSP Programmers urgently.

As with all our contracts, Game Ops offers the best rates and the additional benefits of accommodation and travel if required.

13th April 2006

It was interesting to read the article in Develop this month on ‘Outstanding Outsourcing’ and to note that the industry have coined the Game Ops term ‘In-sourcing’ and understands the benefits it offers. Whilst there will undoubtedly be critics arguing against this model, Game Ops is able to prove time and again that ‘in-sourcing’ is often the most effective and flexible way to deliver a project.

Whilst we always welcome skilled and experienced professionals to join Game Ops, we would encourage all graduates who will be completing their chosen courses this summer to email or give us a call on 01382 731909. It is important that your first job in the industry allows the skills you have acquired, during your course, to be utilised to the full and to expand your experience, allowing greater opportunities in the future.

All that remains is to wish you all a Happy Easter and enjoy the break!

7th April 2006

We have had a great response since GDC last month and as you will see from the job boards, we have a number of new opportunities available.

It was nice to meet with so many of our regular clients and hear their thoughts on both the service Game Ops offers and the caliber of people we supply - all comments favorable and encouragement to keep on providing more of the same.

In order to do this we must continue to add to our existing register of extremely talented and experienced contractors, so if you think you would like to join us, then email or contact us on 01382 731909

We negotiate rates and conditions on your behalf and by maintaining regular contact, we can ensure that you contract is an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
